Yellow Moong Dal Khichdi for tummy aches
Serving Size
3 people
Ingredients
- 1 small bowl of rice (jasmine rice recommended, but brown rice works too)
- 1 small bowl of dal (lentils), equal amount to rice
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric (haldi)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons oil (avocado oil recommended)
- 5-6.5 cups water (depending on desired consistency)
Instructions
- Combine dal and rice in a bowl
- Wash thoroughly, removing any small black particles
- Soak in water for 10 minutes
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pressure cooker
- Add the soaked rice and dal mixture, sauté for 2 minutes
- Add turmeric and salt
- Add water: 5 times the amount of rice/dal mixture for a drier khichdi, or 6.5 times for a more soupy consistency
- Close the pressure cooker and cook for 5 whistles
- Let it cool - it tastes better when cold!
Notes
If using brown rice, make sure to wash it extra carefully. The "small bowl" referenced is the average sized steel bowl
commonly found in Indian households.
